Team India's official sponsors, Nike, unveiled a new lighter outfit just ahead of the 2007 World Cup. The jersey is made from Dri-FIT fabric, which enables the skin breathe better.

2003

Sourav Ganguly

Post the match-fixing scandal that rocked Indian cricket in 2000, Sourav Ganguly, despite leading a relatively inexperienced side, took India to greater heights. He led India to two successive Champions Trophy finals in 2000 and 2002 respectively. At the 2003 World Cup, the Indian batting line-up was considered to be one of the best in the competition.

Mohammad Azharuddin

Mohammad Azharuddin achieved a unique feat of becoming the only captain to lead India in three World Cups, since 1992.

Mohammad Azharuddin had a great time as captain, leading India to victory in 5 of the last six ODI series they played, in the build up to the 1996 World Cup.

Mohammad Azharuddin took over captaincy from Kris Srikkanth in 1990. His performance with the bat deterioated the next year and he couldn't score a fifty for 17 innings during that phase. However, he had a good run in the World Cup, registering four fifties and finishing the tournament as India's highest run-getter.

Kapil Dev

Post the 1983 World Cup, poor form forced the selectors to strip Kapil Dev off captaincy. However, the all-rounder bounced back and regained the leadership role for the fourth edition of the World Cup.

Kapil Dev

India were given nil chance of upstaging West Indies in the 1983 World Cup final, so much so that Kapil Dev's wife expected defeat and went shopping. Fortunes turned and how! He is the first Indian to achieve a double of 300 runs and 10 wickets in a single edition of a World Cup. Yuvraj Singh is the second.

Srinivas Venkataraghavan

Versatile Venkat: He was India's skipper for the first two World Cup competitions, a manager who doubled as a coach on the tours of Australia in 1985-86 and West Indies in 1989, was secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association from 1986 to 1989, a national selector in 1991-92, a notable columnist for newspapers and magazines for many years, expert commentator for television for innumerable Tests and One-Day Internationals, ICC match referee in the 90s, and ICC panel umpire, who even officiated in the opener of the 2003 World Cup.

Srinivas Venkataraghavan

Interesting fact: Frustrated by India's ultra-slow approach in their mammoth chase of 335 in their World Cup opener, a spectator rushed onto the field and pleaded with the Indian batsmen to show some aggression.
