Venkat: He was India's skipper for the first two World Cup
competitions, a manager who doubled as a coach on the tours of Australia
in 1985-86 and West Indies in 1989, was secretary of the Tamil Nadu
Cricket Association from 1986 to 1989, a national selector in 1991-92, a
notable columnist for newspapers and magazines for many years, expert
commentator for television for innumerable Tests and One-Day
Internationals, ICC match referee in the 90s, and ICC panel umpire, who
even officiated in the opener of the 2003 World Cup.
